How to Earn Your Seaplane Rating
1
Step One: Find a flight school
If you just want your seaplane rating for fun, consider a flight school somewhere exotic, like Alaska! If you are interested in flying floats professionally, choose the flight school where you can imagine yourself working.
2
Step Two: Schedule your training
Most seaplane flight schools can accommodate expedited training. If you are traveling to get the rating, make sure the checkride has been scheduled in advance. Expect an average of 6-10 flying hours to reach proficiency.
3
Step Three: Fly like a boss
The nature of seaplane training is such that you will likely experience the entire syllabus within the first two flights. Use the rest of your training period to run drills on weaker areas so you are ready to go on checkride day!
